Educators implement effective planning, instruction, assessment and reporting practices to create respectful, inclusive environments for student learning and development.
This stems from creating your lessons to accommodate all of your students. I feel that educator and student communication is the number one key in this instance. To develop a respectful and inclusive environment, planning our lessons to be inclusive will help with this practice. From the beginning of the year, you must be clear on your expectations and your boundaries. Students will follow suit with structure and guidelines. Assessment follows this consistency, if we are inconsistently practicing, then we will not have guidelines to follow in and out of the classroom. As an educator you must also understand that each student may require diverse assessment needs. Some students may a lesson for all and some may be something for most and some. One class that I was observing in had three math worksheets that were labelled mild, medium, and spicy. Mild was simple addition, medium was two-digit addition, and spicy was three-digit addition. It was clear to the students what each level meant and how it would be assessed. They also felt comfortable asking for mild when they are feeling mild that day. I hope to continue learning how to practice and create respectful and inclusive environments for my students development.
